Tampa sessions

Bayshore, the Riverwalk, and the neighborhoods that feel like home

Tampa, FL

No. 01 — In Alle's words

Tampa is a city of distinct neighborhoods, and that's what makes it such a rewarding place to photograph. Real architecture, real urban texture, century-old oaks shading brick sidewalks in Hyde Park, the long curve of Bayshore against the water — there's no one Tampa look, and that's the point. It's a regular part of my service area and I'm in the city often.

My short list of favorite Tampa locations: Bayshore Boulevard, the long sidewalk along the water — it's the longest continuous sidewalk in the country and at golden hour with the bay glowing behind you it photographs incredibly well for engagement walks and slow family strolls. The Tampa Riverwalk and Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park downtown for a more polished, modern backdrop with the river behind you. Hyde Park for the tree-lined brick sidewalks and historic bungalows — beautiful for branding and intimate family sessions. Davis Islands for waterfront vibes without the downtown crowds. Tampa Heights for an industrial-warm, slightly grittier aesthetic. And the University of Tampa's Plant Hall, with permission, for those iconic minaret backdrops at last light.

I tell Tampa clients to think of their session as moving through neighborhoods. Often we'll start on Bayshore for the wide-open sky shots, drive 10 minutes into Hyde Park for the intimate, tree-shaded portion, then finish near the Hillsborough River as the city lights start to come on. It's three different feelings in one evening, and it photographs as a story.

The heat in Tampa is its own thing. From May through October, early morning is non-negotiable — not negotiable-because-it-photographs-better, non-negotiable because nobody is having a good time at 5pm in August. November through April is easier; we can do golden-hour evening sessions comfortably.

A note on direction: Tampa Bay sits east of the Gulf, so golden-hour light on Bayshore comes from the west and reflects off the bay water differently than a Gulf beach does. It's a softer, slightly bluer light. Worth knowing when you're picturing the final feel of the images.

A handful from Tampa.

No. 03 — Worth knowing

A few practical notes.

Early morning May–October

Tampa heat is genuinely brutal in summer. We meet at sunrise, finish before 9am, and everyone has a coffee in their hand. Evening sessions are saved for November–April.

Parking varies wildly by neighborhood

Hyde Park: easy street parking. Downtown: needs planning, use a garage. Bayshore: street parking is fine on weekday evenings, tight Saturday mornings.

Plan around neighborhoods, not landmarks

The strongest Tampa galleries move through two or three neighborhoods in one evening — Bayshore for the open sky, Hyde Park for the tree-shaded close-ups, the Riverwalk for the city-lights finish. Tell me the feeling you want and I'll route the session.

Bayshore light direction

Bayshore faces east-southeast; the bay reflects evening light back warmly. Different feeling than the Gulf — softer, more blue. Knowing this matters when you're picturing the final photos.
