Sessions on Longboat Key
The quietest of the keys, and the easiest to disappear into
Longboat Key, FL
No. 01 — In Alle's words
Longboat is the quietest of the Sarasota-area keys. It's a long, thin barrier island — eleven miles of mostly residential and resort beachfront with very little public beach access — and that scarcity is exactly what makes it feel different. You can shoot a full session and never see another group.
I love Longboat for elopements and intimate weddings. The beach is wide and flat, the sand is the same warm cream as Lido, and the light at sunset is unbroken — no condos crowding the western horizon the way you get further south. A ceremony at the water line on Longboat at golden hour photographs like a film still.
For couples staying at one of the resorts on the key, I can often shoot on-property if the resort allows it. A handful of the major properties do; some require a specific vendor list or an outside-photographer fee. I'm happy to coordinate that directly with whoever you're booked with — just tell me where you're staying when you inquire and I'll handle the conversation.
Longboat is also a beautiful choice for families staying at a vacation rental on the key — most of my Longboat family sessions are guests of the island for a week who want one evening that becomes the print on the wall.
Drive time from Sarasota is about 25–30 minutes depending on bridge traffic. From St. Armands Circle, you're already on the south end of the key. From downtown, allow a touch more in winter season.

Public access is limited — plan ahead
Longboat has a handful of public beach accesses, the best of which is Whitney Beach at the north end (off Broadway Street, near Whitney Plaza). From there, you can walk north along the shoreline to Beer Can Island — locals know it for the fallen driftwood and the shelling at low tide, and it's quietly one of my favorite spots for couples sessions and editorial portraits. If you're staying at a resort on the key, we may not need public access at all — tell me where you're booked and I'll coordinate.
Resort sessions
Several resorts on Longboat allow on-property photography, some with restrictions or fees. Tell me where you're booked and I'll coordinate.
Elopements and intimate weddings
The wide, uninterrupted stretches of beach photograph beautifully for ceremonies. Sunset is the right call. I keep coverage tight and editorial.
Drive time
About 25–30 minutes from downtown Sarasota. Factor in the John Ringling Causeway in season — Friday afternoons get slow.
